The ladies in the office were always kind and helpful, Robert and Ron who provided my estimate and did my window installation were both on time, professional, helpful, and kind, and Ron did an amazing job installing my windows. Their customer service is truly superior. I hope I can utilize their service again for my future home projects and updates.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Are glass block windows actually secure?

Yes. A mortar-set glass block window is effectively a masonry wall. Unlike standard glass panes that can be shattered quietly, or vinyl frames that can be pried open, glass block is thick, heavy, and integrated into the foundation. Breaking through requires significant force, noise, and time—three things intruders avoid.

Do glass block windows have vents?

Yes. Glass Block HQ installs fresh air vents directly into the panel. Hopper vents tip in from the top for privacy. Slider vents slide open horizontally for airflow. Dedicated dryer vent blocks with a 4-inch exhaust hookup are also available for basement laundry rooms.

Can you install glass block in winter?

Yes. We use cold-weather mortar additives that allow the mortar to cure properly even in freezing temperatures. We install year-round in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

Do I need a lintel above a glass block window?

Yes. Glass block is non-load-bearing. There must be a structural header (lintel) above the opening to carry the weight of the house. Glass Block HQ checks for this during every initial assessment.

What is the Glass Block HQ warranty?

All Glass Block HQ installations come with a lifetime workmanship warranty. The blocks themselves are made by industry-leading manufacturers and carry their own material warranties against manufacturing defects.

Is this basement space a bedroom or a finished living space?

Glass block is a strong fit for privacy, security, utility rooms, laundry rooms, bathrooms, garages, storage areas, and other non-bedroom basement openings. If the space behind the window is a bedroom, a short-term rental sleeping room, an Airbnb sleeping room, or finished living space people actually use, you should evaluate egress before you install glass block. Ohio Residential Code requires a code-compliant emergency escape opening for basement bedrooms. Finished basement living spaces may require — or strongly benefit from — compliant egress, depending on the room’s use, the scope of the finish-out, and your local building department.

Glass block does not open. It should not be treated as an emergency escape opening. Glass Block HQ installs basement glass-block windows for non-sleeping spaces; for basement sleeping rooms and finished living areas, our sister company Evolve Egress installs code-compliant egress windows.
